I am a very competitive person

In a recent episode of Badminton Unlimited, Carolina Marin said that returning to Spain after the All England was an “impressive” moment. She said when she returned the streets and the cities had a deserted look. “Nobody was on the road, nobody came out. Everybody was inside.”

Marin said, “When we have this kind of difficult part in our life I take the positive things…But right now we have to be very careful because you don’t know if you have the Covid-19 or not.”

Marin is currently staying at her home in Huelva and she said that she has had some time to dedicate to her favourite hobby that is cooking. She said she loved to cook a variety of cuisines, like Indian with all the spices, variety of noodles and Spanish food.

Here are some excerpts from the episode.

I wake up around 7.30 in the morning and I go for the first practice at 8.30. And then we start from 9 until 11. We have the tactical session at this time. And then I have a little bit of physical training from 11 to 12.

Sometimes I have legs and arms training and then have some rest. Then I go back home and cook my lunch. I go for a second session in the afternoon at around 3.30 and we start from 4 till 5.30. And then from 5.30 to 6.30 or 7, we have physical training again. And on some days it is with my physiotherapist, so it is just massage time and relaxation.

What do you miss the most about the Tour?

I think mainly just to be competitive because as everyone knows I am a very competitive person. And this maybe is the most important thing I really miss and of course, just to meet all the players. I really miss that a lot.

Actually, I couldn’t think so much about badminton because I had a personal situation and all my focus was on the situation. I couldn’t think a lot about what was going on. My situation was really hard for me personally.

Thoughts on the Olympics being postponed?

Personally, I was lucky that the Olympics Games was postponed for one more year because (as I said before) my personal situation was very hard. I think in a year I will be ready because I really want to win one more gold medal at the Olympics.
