Hopeful the Denmark Open will happen

Danish head coach Kenneth Jonassen hopes the Denmark Open will happen, despite major players missing it out. But he is anxious about the possibility of it being cancelled.

He said that the postponement of the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals was a shame and since everyone had been preparing for six months.

The tournament calendar of 2021 is already very full, with major tournaments like the Olympics, World Championships, Thomas and Uber Cup and Sudirman Cup all set to happen in close proximity.

Through Sport.tv2.dk, he said, β€œI am extremely afraid of the postponement of tournaments to 2021 because the year is already crammed with other championships and open tournaments.”

The Denmark Masters 2020 was cancelled along with the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals. Jonassen said that he hoped the Badminton World Federation (BWF) would remain firm and held the Denmark Open scheduled for 13-18 October.

He said, β€œIt sounds a bit strange, but we have already started to look ahead and that we will hopefully be allowed to play the Denmark Open in week 42

It will be almost naive not to fear it, with the development that has taken place this year.”
