Women’s singles world no.1 Tai Tzu Ying and men’s singles ace Chou Tien Chen will participate in this year’s National Badminton Team Championships organized by the Chinese Taipei Badminton Association (CTBA). The event will be staged at the Taipei Gymnasium in Taipei City from July 9 to July 17, 2020.

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced a long break in international badminton tournaments. The last World Tour tournament was the All England Championships back in March.

Several national federations have started to try and fill this void in their own ways. A “Home Tournament” is ongoing in Indonesia, China allowed players like Chen Yu Fei to play against male players in a televised event (National team vs Provincial team). In Denmark, the Danish League finals were finally held.

According to cna.com.tw, CTBA’s National Team Championships will feature a staggering 331 teams and a total of 3200 players. The tournament will be held without any spectators, in line with the current health protocols of the government.

Cooperative Bank, Land Bank, Taiwan Power, Analog Power and Chailease are the main clubs chasing for the title.

Cooperative Bank, represented by Tai Tzu Ying and Chou Tien Chen, are the favourites and are looking forward to a record 20th consecutive title. They will, however, need to keep a close eye on Land Bank who has a very strong men’s doubles team in Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin.
