World No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying (WS) and world No. 2 Chou Tien Chen (MS) have been nominated for the prestigious Taiwan Sports Elite Award given by the Ministry of Education’s Sports Administration.
In the “Best Female Athlete” category, Tai is up against four other athletes from different fields of sport. Two of who are world-class boxers Lin Yu Ting and Chen Nien Chin who have already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, as per Newtalk.tw.
Notably, Tai was the winner of the same title last year.
In the “Best Male Athlete” category Chou Tien Chen competes with gymnast Lee Chih Kai who won the award last year and two other athletes. Besides the “Best Male Athlete” category, Chou is nominated in the “Best Sportsmanship Award” category as well.
At the award ceremony for the same last year, it was announced that all the winners and nominees were role models and would serve an inspiration for aspiring athletes.
