Kento Momota was forced to retire from the Yonex French Open semi-final today with a back sprain.

His teammate and opponent of today, Kanta Tsuneyama advances to the final and will face Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen.

At 24-24 in the first game, Momota seemed to have pulled his back muscle while hitting a jump smash from the backcourt. He was able to close the game 26-24.

During the mid-game interval, he received some cold spray treatment on his back but it didn’t help much.

He finally retired from the match at the end of the second game after confirming with his coach Yousuke Nakanishi.
