Russian men’s doubles world no. 14 Ivan Sozonov is set to clash against Indonesia’s Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in a men’s singles match today.

The men’s singles match is the first match of the tie between Indonesia and the National Badminton Federation of Russia.

Sozonov, who is a front court men’s doubles specialist, was selected ahead of teammate Vladimir Malkov who is ranked 82 in men’s singles world rankings.

Sozonov after playing the first match of the tie will also play the third match of the tie.

The third match (men’s doubles) will be played by him and his partner Vladimir Ivanov against the world no. 1 pairing of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.

The last time Ivan Sozonov played a men’s singles match in the international circuit was back in 2013, a qualifying round match in the Maybank Malaysia Masters which he lost.
