Today is Lee Zii Jia’s 23rd birthday. Incidentally, it is also the day his quarantine ends. The All England champion received many invitations for functions and interviews to attend and share his recent victory. “While I appreciate that everyone is happy and want to celebrate with me, I just want to make it clear that I’m just an ordinary athlete,” he said.
He stressed that he doesn’t want his performance to be affected by “side activities”. He said, “I have seen many athletes, who are famous after winning, get distracted by doing other things. As a result, they end up spending lesser time in training and eventually their performance is affected.”
