All England champion Lee Zii Jia will most probably not participate in the India Open on May 11-16. The tournament is one of the three remaining major Olympic qualifying tournaments, the other two being the Malaysia Open and the Singapore Open.

Currently, Lee is ranked No. 9th in the Race to Tokyo rankings and has already booked his ticket for the Games.

Head coach Wong Choong Hann said, “Zii Jia is almost certain to skip the India Open. The rising cases of Covid-19 there is certainly a factor but it’s not that we will completely not send any players…Right now, there is a stronger desire to send the men’s doubles and women’s doubles to India.”
