Mixed doubles’ head coach Richard Mainaky will not be accompanying Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Assistant coach Nova Widianto will be accompanying the world number fours to Tokyo.
Mainaky said, “I’ve been preparing for this plan (sending Nova to the Olympics) for a long time. I thought, from 1996 to Rio 2016 I’ve been to the Olympics, with two silvers and one gold. When will young coaches who excel get the same opportunity? That’s why I have chosen Nova to go there (Tokyo), so that there is a regeneration of coaches in the future”
He added, “I told Nova, whatever the result is, I will be responsible. Because that’s my choice.”
