USA’s Zhang Beiwen was wheeled out of the court in a wheelchair after she injured her left leg during her round of 16 match against He Bing Jiao of China at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Zhang was leading the match by one game at 21-14, 7-9 when she suddenly injured her leg and fell down on court holding her left ankle in pain.

Zhang seemed to have torn the Achilles tendon on her left ankle while trying to hit a routine shot.

Her ankle was heavily taped from before and there might have been an existing injury or a condition prior to the match.

A doctor immediately rushed onto the court and assessed her leg.

Zhang was in too much pain to continue on with the match. She broke down in tears as her long journey to and in the Olympics came down crashing in a matter of seconds.

She was unable to walk out of court by herself and was taken out of the court in a wheelchair by the tournament staff.

He Bing Jiao will advance to the quarter finals and will meet the winner of the match between Nozomi Okuhara and Michelle Li.
