The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will hold a tournament in the Thomas Cup format. The tournament is set for mid-September. BAM wants to use this team tournament as a preparation for the Thomas Cup in Aarhus, Denmark (3-11 October).

The BAM Invitational Championship is already underway. General Secretary of BAM, Kenny Goh said through The Star that they were planning to hold another tournament after receiving feedback from the coaches. He said that the event would be limited to the Thomas Cup because currently there were not enough independent women players.

“Since there are no tournaments in September, these are the several alternatives we can think of. After all, the players are in the midst of preparing for the Thomas Cup. Having a BAM versus independent players tournament can generate some excitement among local fans,” said Goh.

It will be interesting to watch the tournament between the national team led by Lee Zii Jia and the independent team with players such as Liew Daren, Goh V Shem, Tan Wee Kiong, Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi.
