The Badminton Asia (BA) has denied the idea that the Badminton World Federation (BWF) was compelled to postpone the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals because major Asian countries pulled out.

Saw Chit Boon, the chief operating officer of the BA, said the situation should not be read as “Asians going against the Europeans.”

Recommendations: Anger and disappointment pour in as Thomas and Uber Cup gets postponed again

Through The Star, he said, “I think it is the right and prerogative of every participating country to decide if they want to travel to play or not. There are lots of things to be taken into consideration because each country imposes different SOP (standard operating procedures), rules and conditions for their citizen travelling abroad.”

He added that the most important thing to do was to combat the pandemic together. And that the Asian countries pulling out of playing in Denmark should not be a divisive question and it was not about “the Asian countries pulling out just to make life difficult for everybody.”

He continued that if the host had happened to be an Asian country, the question would not have arisen. And that the Europe-Asia question rose because Denmark was the host.
