Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen will be playing his first match today in the 2021 Victor Denmark Open without his usual coach Kenneth Jonassen.

His father-in-law and his new coach, Henrik ‘PK’ Rohde will be the one who will sit behind Axelsen on the court today to give coaching inputs to him.

Axelsen trained in Dubai with Henrik Rohde before coming to Europe for the tournament.

Axelsen told TV2, “I look forward to having ‘PK’ behind me at the Denmark Open and French Open next week. The most important thing is that I do what I can to play good badminton, and I know I have someone behind me that I can trust.”

The Olympic champion will be facing Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in his match today.

Incidentally, Loh was Axelsen’s sparring partner in Dubai over the last couple of months. It will be interesting to see if Loh has gained some inside knowledge on Axelsen’s game to use it to his advantage.
