Wang Chi-Lin and Lee Yang of Chinese Taipei became the first unseeded pair to win the men’s double gold at the Olympics today after defeating China’s Li Jun Hui and Liu Yu Chen.

They also became the first badminton players from Chinese Taipei to ever win a medal of any colour at the Olympics after crushing the Chinese with a 21-18, 21-12.

Wang and Lee started their Olympic campaign in Tokyo with a loss and were on the verge of being knocked out of the tournament, which is coincidentally the only match they lost in 2021.

They however dug really deep and defeated the world No. 1s Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon to qualify for the knockout stage and stay in the tournament. From then on, they never looked back one moment.
