Assistant coach Thomas Stavngaard is the latest and the fifth person to test positive for Covid-19 from the Danish team that participated in the 2021 European Championships (Ukraine).

Before returning to Denmark on Sunday, Stavngaard tested negative for the virus in a PCR test. He also tested negative after arriving in Denmark.

He, however, woke up with illness on Monday morning. A subsequent PCR test confirmed that he is positive for the virus.

“When I woke up this morning, I had a throbbing headache. I took a few Panodils (paracetamol), but the pain has come back a bit. Apart from headaches, I do not feel any discomfort,” said Stavngaard in an official statement from Badminton Denmark.
