The Badminton World Federation (BWF) scraped the rule that previously stated that players needed to participate both the European and the Asian leg to play the World Tour Finals.

In a virtual meeting held yesterday, the BWF confirmed that this previous stipulation was simply not possible with the recent developments in the tour calendar.

As quoted by The Star, BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund said, “There have been changes to the rules. Obviously the rules about participating in all tournaments was mainly related to safety measures of moving athletes from one bubble to the next which is no longer the case because of the separation of the two legs.”

The Asian leg has been moved to Thailand in January 2021, which includes three tournaments. The BWF reiterated that they were looking forward to seeing all the players participating in Thailand and making the Asian leg a success.
