Sindhu’s former coach Kim Ji Hyun at Chinese Taipei

AP Badminton club of Chinese Taipei announced the arrival of South Korean Kim Ji Hyun as a coach. Kim has an impressive portfolio and has served as the women’s singles coach in the national teams of South Korea and India.

Earlier in September, she left the coaching bench of the Indian team citing personal reasons. Indian head coach Pullela Gopichand had said that Kim’s husband Ritchie Marr suffered a stroke and that Kim would take time off for at least 6 to 7 months.

Kim was the women’s singles coach in India when PV Sindhu won the world championship title this year.

She is back to coaching only three months after leaving the Indian team.

It can be pointed out that many foreign nationals have chosen to leave the coaching bench of India in a short span of time.

Indonesia’s Mulyo Handoyo left in January 2018. He was in charge of the Men’s Singles discipline.

Malaysian Tan Kim Her (Men’s Doubles) also left earlier this year in March.

None of the foreign coaches had completed their tenures and they all cited personal reasons for terminating their contracts.
