Shi Yu Qi defeated Lucas Claerbout today in the first round of the Macau Open with a score of 16-21, 26-24, 21-11. He took 1 hour 6 minutes to overcome his opponent.

Shi Yuqi injured his left ankle in July during the Indonesian Open. He made an attempt to return to competition earlier in September in the Victor China Open, but lost disappointingly in a match which lasted only 15 mins.

The 23 year old Chinese is the top seed at this BWF Super 300 tournament. He will face fellow countryman Ren Peng Bo in the next round. It may be pointed out that the second seed is Son Wan Ho of South Korea who is also making a comeback from injury.

Shi Yu Qi is currently at 56th position with 17711 points in the 2020 Olympic Qualification rankings. Chen Long (55910 points) and Lin Dan (35210 points) are the two qualified players from China right now.

Shi Yu Qi will gain 7000 ranking points if he wins the Macau Open title.
