All the players participating in the Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open are reportedly safe amid the unrest resulting from anti-government protests in the city.

NST quoted Badminton Association of Malaysia’s General Secretary Kenny Goh, “Security, according to BWF, is tight and the event is safe.”

“Transportation is provided for them to travel from the official hotel to the venue (Coliseum). Players and officials are accompanied by guards should they need to go for meals outside the hotel,” said Goh.

Meanwhile, USA player Zhang Beiwen had a scare while trying to return back to her hotel because of street protesters.

She was then escorted across the blocked street by a member of the press. On her Instagram, she said that it was the only way she could have crossed the street.
