Indonesian mixed doubles coach Richard Mainaky wants Melati Daeva Oktavianti and Praveen Jordan to focus on qualifying for the Olympics rather than the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals. He said the main focus for the pair was to stay in the top four of the Race to Tokyo standings.

Currently, the pair is at No. 13 in the World Tour Finals standings and not qualified for the Finals which is scheduled for Bangkok in January. On the Race to Tokyo standings, they are at No. 4 and are qualified for Tokyo Olympics.

Through Suara, Mainaky said, “I want them to focus more on the Olympic points so they don’t get out of the four. So the focus for Praveen and Melati is definitely Olympic points.”

He said if the pair ended up not qualifying for the World Tour Finals he was fine with the prospect as the entire Indonesian team skipped the DANISA Denmark Open which gave other players points.

Richard has given high targets for the All England champions at the YONEX Thailand Open and TOYOTA Thailand Open. He said he was expecting only the best results.

“Praveen and Melati, they must be able to win the tournaments or reach the finals.”
