Malaysian team head coach Wong Choong Hann stated that the Badminton Association of Malaysia will most likely not recruit independent players to join the Thomas Cup team this year.
Therefore big names like Goh V Shem, Tan Wee Kiong and Daren Liew are unlikely to take part even though there is not much depth in the lineup of the Malaysian squad.
Choong Hann told The Star, “While our men’s singles depth is vulnerable, I don’t think recalling Daren would turn the team into a mighty one either.”
“If we’re serious in building the next generation of players after (Lee) Zii Jia, we have to start right now and be daring,” he added.
