World champions Wakana Nagahara and Mayu Matsumoto are aiming for the gold at the All England Championships this week. They have never won the coveted title before.

Nagahara: “Last year, we finished the qualifying race for the Olympics in a way that was very disappointing to us. I have a strong desire to win this year. Thank you for organizing it (the tournament), even though there is the coronavirus pandemic, I want to do my best to win the championship while preventing infection at the same time.”

With the Chinese and the South Korean players absent from the All England this year, the main roadblocks to their title hunt will be their own teammates Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota, who will be aiming to defend their All England title which they won last year.
