In what can be regarded as a message to all his opponents, world No. 1 Kento Momota said he is one hundred percent confident that he can win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

In a video interview released by the Olympics website, Momota said, “People mention the Olympics and the gold medal as the Olympics approach, so to be honest, the pressure is huge. People won’t make such comments if they weren’t expecting me to win. So I’d like to turn that into a positive and go into the Olympics with a productive degree of pressure and tension.

“I don’t think you can become a champion if you are hesitant, so allow me to say, I’m 100% confident about the gold medal!”
