After world no. 2 Viktor Axelsen tested positive for Covid-19, men’s doubles finalist Mark Lamsfuss (Germany) has also tested positive.
As a result, the men’s doubles final at the 2021 European Championships has been called off.
Lamsfuss’s doubles partner Marvin Seidel and mixed doubles partner Isabel Herttrich have also been isolated due to being close contacts.
In addition to Lamsfuss, an umpire at the tournament has also tested positive in the latest rounds of tests.
“I’m very disappointed and sad about it. We were in top form and we would have won the gold medal today,” said Mark Lamsfuss.
The German pair were supposed to face Russia’s Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov in the final today.
Based on the latest developments, the organizers at the 2021 European Championships have taken the following decisions
