2008 Beijing Olympic gold medalist Markis Kido has passed away due to a heart attack, according to CNN Indonesia. Kido was just 36 years old.

Kido, who won the gold in Beijing with partner Hendra Setiawan, was known for his explosive style of play.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Hendra Setiawan expressed his condolences and said, “My deepest condolences to one of my best partners in joy and sorrow.. He is an extraordinary and very talented player.. I want to say thank you very much for being a very good partner for me in winning or losing.

Thank you for partnering from scratch and fighting together for 14 years.
Thank you Kido & goodbye.”

Former Danish player Mathias Boe wrote, “Terrible terrible news hearing about Markis Kido dying from a heart attack. One of the most gifted players the game has ever seen. Had the pleasure of playing with him during PBL in 2013. RIP my friend, my thoughts are with your family.”
