Several big names have withdrawn from the Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2021, an Olympic qualifying tournament. Notable players who have withdrawn are Carolina Marin, Anders Antonsen, Ratchanok Intanon, Rasmus Gemke and Kim Astrup / Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.

Rising concern over Covid-19 is most likely to be the reason behind their withdrawal. Host city New Delhi reported 16699 positive new cases yesterday (24-hour increase). While India reported a total of 216828 new cases yesterday.

There is a full curfew during the weekends in New Delhi currently, except for the movement of essential services. There is also a night curfew which is enforced on all days of the week to curb the spread of the virus.
