Malaysian Director of Coaching Wong Choong Hann said he would accompany Lee Zii Jia to the Asian leg of tournaments, provided the Malaysian government gave the green signal.

He praised the young Lee and said he does everything from his heart and that he had the determination to be a great player. According to reports by My All Sports, he said, “I believe he will become a champion.”

He said the Asia Open I and Asia Open II are important tournaments since the players would be able to gather precious Olympics ranking points from these two tournaments.

On the other hand, former Malaysian General Performance Director Sivarage who had previously said that Lee would win the gold at Tokyo Olympics cautioned about the risk involved in travelling and what it might mean in the future.

Sivarage: “If Lee Zii Jia competes (in Thailand), he will definitely win, but at the same time it is like surrendering your own safety because it violates the government’s instructions. If anything happens, who will be held responsible?”

Lee Zii Jia is currently ranked 9th on the Race to Tokyo – BWF Olympics Qualification. Only the top 8 players will qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
