Malaysia and Singapore are the latest countries to ban all flights originating or transiting from India which is currently the epicentre of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Malaysia Open (25-30 May) and the Singapore Open (1-6 June) have now become pipe dreams for Srikanth Kidambi and Saina Nehwal, who have been depending on the two tournaments to qualify for the Olympics.

The flight bans are not likely to be lifted anytime soon and players who are participating in the Malaysia Open need to arrive in Kuala Lumpur latest by 18 May 2021.

“It’s still not over for me, though. If I can manage a semifinal finish in Malaysia and a quarterfinal in Singapore, that’ll be good for my qualification chances,” Srikanth had said before the flight bans were in place.
