Malaysia’s top shuttler and world no. 5 Lee Zii Jia has withdrawn from the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK from July 28 to August 8.

Zii Jia has decided to skip the Games so that he can focus on the world championships later this year.

Zii Jia told NST, “I have decided not to play in the Commonwealth Games, and it is a tough decision, which I made after speaking to my team. I have been playing non-stop and need to take care of my body condition.”

“I want to be in my best condition for the world meet (championships).”

The badminton world championships will be held in Tokyo this year on Aug 21-28.

For the record, Malaysia has never won a gold medal in the world championship in any category in badminton.
