Lee Zii Jia was pushed to three games by rising youngster Christo Popov in the pre-quarters round of the Yonex Gainward German Open.

He managed to close the match 21-13, 18-21, 21-12 in a match that lasted 61 minutes.

Zii Jia said, “I played too slowly in the second game and he got more and more comfortable. Then, I wanted to win too much and got too impatient.”

“It was a bit of a struggle for me at first but I managed to handle it halfway through the third game,” he added.

Lee Zii Jia will face Zhao Jun Peng of China today in the quarter-finals.
