All England Champion Lee Zii Jia was knocked out from the Tokyo 2020 men’s singles event by defending champion Chen Long in the round of 16 today.
Lee started out strongly and took the first game 21-8. But Chen Long summoned his form from 5 years back to systematically dismantle the young Malaysian and win the match with a convincing scoreline of 21-8, 19-21, 5-21.
FMT reported Lee Zii Jia as saying, “I think I was good in the opening game. Things were going well. There was a strategy change at Chen’s end. He was more patient and I think that worked for him. He didn’t make any mistakes.
“In the second game I was making a lot of mistakes, so I think there’s still a long journey for me.”
