Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has banned All England champion Lee Zii Jia from all international tournaments for a period of 2 years.
After Lee Zii Jia gave his resignation letter 2 weeks back and decided to become an independent player, talks were held between Zii Jia and the association to find a middle ground.
Lee Zii Jia made the following demands to BAM:
- To have his own team of coaches and support service
- To plan his own tournaments
- To have his own sponsors
BAM rejected Lee Zii Jia’s demands and will consequently not register his name for any international tournaments for 2 years w.e.f. 18 January 2022.
Along with Lee Zii Jia, women’s singles player and former world junior champion Goh Jin Wei has also been similarly banned for 2 years.
