Kirsty Gilmour has suffered a “fairly serious foot injury” and will be out for a few weeks. It means that she will not be travelling to Thailand this January.

The Scotland national confirmed that her injury occurred during the European Mixed Team Championships qualifiers and that there were no broken bones.

Through her social media, she wrote, “Thankfully no broken bones but some bone bruising and a stress reaction. Which means crutches and no badminton for a few weeks. And no Thailand 1000 trip. But onwards and Upwards.”

Gilmour won the last tournament of 2020, the SaarLorLux Open, beating Olympic champion Carolina Marin.
