Japan’s Olympic minister Seiko Hashimoto believes that the postponed Tokyo Olympics should be held next July “at any cost” considering the efforts and preparations made by everyone.
“Everyone involved with the Games is working together to prepare, and the athletes are also making considerable efforts towards next year. I think we have to hold the Games at any cost,” Hashimoto said as reported by BBC.
Hashimoto made this remark after the Vice President of the IOC John Coates said that the Olympics “will take place with or without COVID.” Coates had also said that the organizers were looking to hold the Olympics safely.
Tokyo 2020 is now set for 23 July – 8 August 2021. This is the first Olympics to be postponed in history. It was cancelled in 1940 due to the outbreak of World War II. Coincidentally, it was scheduled for Tokyo as well.
