Thailand’s top women’s singles player Ratchanok Intanon has withdrawn from two upcoming major events, the Sudirman Cup (Vantaa, 26 September – 3 October 2021) and the Uber Cup (Aarhus, 9 – 17 October 2021).

According to Siamsport, Intanon told her coach that she was not ready to compete at the moment and asked for a little time to recover mentally.

She is in shock and finding it hard to cope with the sudden demise of her mother, said Kamala Thongkorn, owner of the BTY Badminton School where Intanon trains.

Intanon’s absence from the Thailand team in the two tournaments will be filled in by Busanan Ongbamrungphan, Pornpawee Chochuwong and Phittayaporn Chaiwan.
