Olympic bronze medalist Saina Nehwal and husband Parupalli Kashyap have withdrawn from the Super 750 DANISA Denmark Open, which is set for next week in Odense.

The couple expressed that they had intended to participate in Denmark if there were a consistent number of tournaments like originally planned. The couple jointly said that going to Denmark for one single tournament would be not the right decision.

Nehwal, as quoted by the TOI, said, “I withdrew from Denmark Open. I decided that I will start the season from January only with the Asian tour…There is no injury issue but if three tournaments were there it would have made sense.”

Kashyap cited similar reasons and said, “I too feel it is not worth the risk to go all the way for one tournament. It is better to start the season afresh participating in the Asian leg from January.”

Former world No. 1 Srikanth Kidambi, Ajay Jayaram, Subhankar Dey and rising star Lakshya Sen will all be participating in the Denmark Open.
