World no. 1s Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo are drawn in group A with Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin (Chinese Taipei), Ben Lane/Sean Vendy (England) and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty (India) in the Olympic Games which starts on the 23rd.
None of the three pairs has ever recorded a win against Gideon and Sukamuljo.
Talking about the draw of the tournament, Gideon said, “It’s called the Olympics, we can’t be picky about our opponents. Everyone is equally strong, it will be exciting.”
“All our opponents are tough, and we don’t know each other’s strengths. We don’t want to focus on just one opponent, we have to be careful,” he added.
