Both men’s doubles representatives of Indonesia, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan have qualified for the quarter-finals at Tokyo 2020.
Both pairs topped their respective groups despite different outcomes in today’s matches. Sukamuljo/Gideon lost to Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin while Ahsan/Setiawan won against Choi Solgyu/Seo Seungjae.
Regarding Sukamuljo/Gideon’s defeat, coach Herry IP told PBSI media, “From the way they played in the second and the third game, they found their rhythm, but they were not really invested in the game. I’m not worried, there will be time for evaluation and practice tomorrow before going into the quarterfinals.”
Regarding the ‘Daddies’, he commented, “Ahsan and Hendra’s form, as far I can see, is getting better day by day. In terms of gameplay, we have indeed changed it a little. They can no longer play power struggles with the young ones, or they will lose. So the game is a combination of slow pace, accuracy of shots, not continuous hard-hitting.”
