China won their semi-final tie against Korea today in the Sudirman Cup in convincing fashion.

After China took the first two matches in the best-of-five tie, all hopes were on Korea’s An Se Young to keep Korea alive in the tournament.

An Se Young has been in very good form of late. She took the first game against China’s Chen Yu Fei (21-14) and played a very solid game throughout the whole match. But it wasn’t enough to beat the reigning Olympic champion.

Chen Yu Fei came back strongly in the second and the third game with some great smashes and net plays. After getting the help of some ‘lucky’ net cords in the third game, Chen won the match 14-21, 21-15, 21-15.

With this win, China has now entered the final of the Sudirman Cup for a record 14 consecutive times.

Out of the last 13 finals, China has won 11 times. The two times in which China lost the final were in 2017 and 2003 – both of the times to their opponents of today, Korea.

They will meet the winner of the tie between Japan and Malaysia in the final tomorrow.
