China’s Chen Yu Fei took the gold medal in the women’s singles event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after defeating Chinese Taipei favourite Tai Tzu Ying in the final with a score of 21-18, 19-21, 21-18.
A number of unforced errors flowed from Tai Tzu Ying’s racket at the start of the third game, which gave a 10-3 lead to Chen Yu Fei. This lead proved too much to close down even for the world No. 1 Tai.
With Chen Yu Fei’s gold, China reclaims dominance in the women’s singles discipline at the Olympics. And the drought of a world title for Tai Tzu Ying continues.
