Chef de Mission for the Tokyo 2020 Malaysian contingent, Lee Chong Wei gave some words of advice to those who are preparing to travel to Japan to compete and bring glory to Malaysia.
He said, “This is a situation which I never faced when I was a player. Therefore the athletes must work harder on their mentality and be stronger.”
He pointed out that players who are competing during the pandemic are forced to hole up inside their hotel rooms as social interactions are limited, and that TV or mobile games are what most players turn to. He believes this increases the mental burden and urged Malaysian athletes to be prepared for an “out of the ordinary” Olympics.
