The BARFOOT & THOMPSON BWF World Junior Championships 2020 has been cancelled. The tournament was scheduled for 12-17 January 2021 in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced the cancellation on its official website and cited the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions as the reason for the cancellation.

Thomas Lund, Secretary General of the BWF, said, “We are of course disappointed not to be able to stage the 2020 version of the BWF World Junior Championships, but the entry restrictions in place and complexities related to the Covid-19 situation makes it impossible for the event to be planned and therefore hosted in New Zealand in January 2021 as currently scheduled.”

The next BWF World Junior Championships is scheduled for October 2021 in China.

As the hosts for 2021, 2022 and the 2023 championships have been announced, the BWF awarded New Zealand to host the 2024 BWF World Junior Championships.
