The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has officially postponed the 2020 Thomas and Uber Cup Finals. Through the official website, BWF stated that the decision was taken after the withdrawal of several participating teams.

BWF wrote, “BWF, in collaboration with Badminton Denmark, has for many months been preparing for a safe return to international badminton.

However, in view of the recent COVID-19 related developments around the world, a number of teams and individual players have elected not to travel to Denmark for tournaments in Aarhus and Odense, a choice the BWF has to respect and acknowledge.”

BWF is looking for alternative dates to reschedule the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals, provided the dates are not before 2021.

Meanwhile, the Denmark Open will continue as planned (13-18 October). The second tournament the Denmark Masters 2020 (20-25 October) is cancelled.

BWF said the DANISA Denmark Open 2020 in Odense, will “be used as an opportunity to implement relevant COVID-19 Safety Protocols and Operating Procedures for the planned restart of international badminton tournaments.”

The Asian leg of tournaments related announcements will soon be made.
