Badminton World Federation (BWF) has announced the schedule for six tournaments to be held in the remainder of the year.
Besides the 2020 Thomas and Uber Cup, there will be two Super 750 tournaments, two Super 1000 tournaments and the year-ending World Tour Finals.
The two Super 750 tournaments will be held in Denmark in the weeks immediately following the Thomas and Uber Cup.
Here are the tournament schedules updated by BWF.
- TOTAL BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2020, Aarhus, Denmark.
3 – 11 October, BWF Major Championships - DANISA Denmark Open I 2020, Odense, Denmark.
13 – 18 October, HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament. - Denmark Open II 2020, Odense, Denmark.
20 – 25 October, HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament. - Asia Open I 2020, Host city TBC (To be confirmed)
10 – 15 November, HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000. - Asia Open II 2020, Host city TBC
17 – 22 November. This will be a HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000. - HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2020, Host city TBC
24 – 29 November, Major Championships.
The six tournaments will be staged in only two countries, a move by BWF to circumvent the various travel and quarantine restrictions during international travel.
Through the official BWF website, Secretary General Thomas Lund said, “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not possible to implement the revised international tournament calendar for the HSBC BWF World Tour as originally envisage.”
BWF has set up a Safety Protocols and Operating Procedures document to help guide conduct safe tournaments.
The unfreezing of the World Ranking will be announced in the near future.
