Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen has returned to Denmark and is training with the national team for the first time since moving to Dubai in August.

Axelsen is only training temporarily at the national centre as part of the Danish squad for the Sudirman Cup (26 September-3 October 2021) and the Thomas Cup (9-17 October 2021) team championships.

Head coach of the Danish team, Kenneth Jonassen, welcomed Axelsen’s return.

He told TV2, “Of course it’s always a pleasure to see Viktor. I think we’ve both been looking forward to this training, so it’s a good start.

“It’s too early to judge the level of his game. The most important thing is that you can always count on Viktor to be in great shape. I’m happy with what I saw today. And I’m happy with the community that forms on the court among the players. They quickly found their way into the rhythm of the game and provided super-training for each other. “
