Akane Yamaguchi stepped in to help flood victims in Kumamoto Prefecture on July 17. The area was badly damaged by heavy rain which flooded many homes.

Yamaguchi plays for the Saishunkan Pharmaceutical Company in the Japan League. The team has a training base in the Kumamoto Prefecture.

Yamaguchi along with 25 other members, including athletes and employees of the Saishunkan Pharmaceutical company took the initiative to help clean the area and houses.

Reported by NHK Japan, Yamaguchi said it was a very difficult time for the people and that she wanted to help even if it was small.

“I think it’s very difficult for everyone, so I participated in the hope that I could help myself. Even if I put mud in and out, I felt that it was a tough task. I hope I can be energized,” Yamaguchi said.

One resident said that he felt greatly helped by what Yamaguchi and the others were doing.
